83 300SD in need of advice

Ok, really quick lemme ask what you all think. 83 SD , motor hits temp ok 80C, getting hot air with ACC set on defrost...but fades to warm quickly at lower speeds, vents change as settings on ACC change but only get tepid air at best on settings other then defrost. I understand that the ACC unit may be fried/in need of re-soldering or replaced...ok. Also understand that aux water pump may be toast, also know that mono-valve may be gunked and in need of repair. My question is....where should I start my quest for fire here? I which order should I attack these probable problems? I don't want to replace the ACC unit when a toasted aux pump may fry the new ACC unit, and don't know enough yet to understand how the whole system is supposed to work so worry about other such mis-steps. Also would love to learn how to test individual pieces/parts before having to schlep 40 miles to the dealership so...man, I've read about all I can find to read and could really use a point in the right direction with this problem that EVERYone seems to experience once in their MB lifetimes. One more thing, climate wheel seems to be operating in reverse on setting other then defrost. When wheel set on hot I get cold air everywhere except defrost, when wheel is set on cold I get tepid air when no buttons are engaged and cold everywhere else but defrost. I hard wired the blower motor as I get zero activity from the blower switch on the ACC, wired it to the cig lighter via toggle switch out of desperation...Thanks for looking in guys, happy holidays!

Take apart your monovalve first as it is VERY easy to access...while you are checking that out turn the key on, turn the heat on but leave the fan on low. You should hear/feel the aux pump running (its directly below the monovalve...connected to it sorta).

Check that first...easy to do

If your pump is bad...check out the recent DIY posted...its awesome detailed!
