Will someone bid on this?

Does he think that someone will really bid on this?

That's funny, he doesn't know what car it's from but he somehow knows it's worth $186.

Never over estimate the intelligence of the average e-bayer.

Wow, that's a strange listing for a seller that's sold so much. And how was this found in a search? I would never just search on "mercedes" or "car" (or "piston").

Try an eBay advanced search to look at all closed auctions from this seller in the last 30 days. They really do look like liquidators - tons of stuff, much of it at very low minimum bids. The strategy appears to be, "volume, volume, volume"! The thought of trying to manage an operation like that makes my head hurt! They also seem to have a substantial percentage of unhappy customers.

The sweet part about sellers like this is that one might, just might, pick up the occasional fantastic bargain - something truly valuable that simply never came to the attention of more than one knowledgeable buyer.

There is some place for odd auctions like that, maybe it goes to a very rare engine and some guy out there is slowly piecing together parts for a rebuild, and no one sells them anymore, and here he runs across one, OH MAN, thats the last piston I need!! Only 186$?? Oh man, its my lucky day!!

But of course, with such a bad picture, and no identifying marks, even that unlikely situation could never happen.

peace,
sam

I love this idea ... you could have tons of fun with it. Pull your car into a public parking lot and pretend to be having engine trouble. With the "mystery piston" hidden in your coat, pop the hood, pretend to wrench around a bit, cursing all the while. Then subtly pull the piston from your coat as though you pulled it from the engine, toss it across the parking lot, brush off your hands as if in victory and then get back in the car, start it up and drive off ...
For 99 cents it would also make a fine doorstop or, if you're into that Ruby Tuesdays style of decor, a nice accent piece for your dining room wall ...

I found it because I have a search set up in eBay to send me an email when there is a new match on "Mercedes piston".

I'm looking for a set of pisteons for my SDL.

That seller is notorious for selling junk. You'd thunk that someone who has made so many transactions could focus their damn camera !!!??? But then anyone could see that this piston was completely fried.

He's probably using a camera from his inventory.
