Unhappy Need help again please

All,

Decided to replace my ignition key tumbler yesterday (83 300SD), after placing the new unit in discovered that "pre ignition" glow was taking place much lower inthe key rotation segment not allowing for starter activation. Thought this is the wrong tumbler, so removed it and re-installed the old one only to discover the same issue taking place.......
Looked inside the housing and there is a spring loaded lever at the bottom end, but it is not obvious what has happened mechanically. Can someone direct me as to how the sequence got out of place and how I can re-set it? I assume there is a commutator to the rear of the tumbler housing controlling rotation contact of the electrical switch.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Adriano
