man this car kicks ass... i drive this thing like a sports car... its pretty fast.. compared to diesel... ill smoke any 300sdl... or sd or even a 300d turbo... it has 180.000 miles... it needs tlc... but its fun... i always wanted a stick 5 cylinder... too bad they dont have it in turbo.. i wouldve installed a blow off valve and every time i switched gears it would make this crazy sound effect.:flamethro by the way the body is us model the drivetrain is euro. :D

Heh sounds like someone thinks they have the hot car on the street.

Turbo + stickshift issues (even though yours is not turbo)

-Loose boost between shifts
-BOV does not work with stock setup (this is NOT a gasser)
-Auto is faster in the 1/4 mile

People always suggest I put a BOV and cold air intake on my 300SD and I just laugh at them. BTW just cause you can drop the cluch and feel like you have mad torque pulling you ahead doesn't mean you have the continued torque not simply stored in the flywheel to compete with a turbo motor :D

glad you are enjoying it though....I love my little stick 240D

maybe I should've

All this talk about standards & 5 cyl's. Makes me wonder if I should've converted my '84 Turbo to the 4 speed from my '80 240D that I parted out.
I wanted to keep it original for resale, but oh well. Paul central FL

I think he was joking guys ;)

If not...better get a sence of humor cheif cause there are a lot of people very proud of their 120HP SD's and their slightly more poweful SDL's :P :D

The stickshift is fun though...glad you are lovin' it :)

having owned

a euro 300d stick, i wouldnt be betting my title that a 300dt or 300sd will beat it. i would bet they might, but not for much money. the 300d euros are seriously quick. they are about 200# lighter than a 300dt and prob 400# lighter than the sd. it will weigh in at about the same as a us spec 240. i think the pumps may be set up to allow more power and more rpm as well.
my us spec 240 with 300 euro stick would do 100 with the stock 3.46 rear and then after i installed the 308, it would still do 100, but took a little longer to get there. i think you will find that a 300dt will be hard pressed to do much more than 100. .. an sd as well. unless they are not stock.

Well he was talking about acceleration, not top speed. I have a 240D and the non-turbo 300D has only about 15 more hp. The turbo version has twice as much horsepower. I seriously doubt his car could beat any of the turbodiesels, even with their extra weight. Having said, I prefer the non-turbo sticks over the turbo automatics and I'm sure the Euro 300D is a fun car to have. I just don't think it's as fast as he claims.

My dad used to drive these often in Germany, (the euro 300d sticks) and he said they were super fast.....so maybe they are....I wouldn't mind having one, thats for sure... :D :D

t walgamuth 12-18-2005 08:04 AM

i didnt say

it would be faster than a turbo. but they are pretty quick. i have no performance numbers, just the seat of my fairly experienced pants.

and i wouldnt bet the farm. you might lose.

also remember what i said about weight. weight slows acceleration.

top speed is more a hp vs wind resistance thing so there using the same body styles will end up being a hp thing for top end...gearing too, but most benzes are geared correctly so that top end will be near the redline.

i just checked my mb buyers guide and they say 93 mph top speed for a 300dt. that seems too slow. i think it should be at least 100. but my euro non turbo stick, i repeat did 100 numerous times.
