broke vacuum hose
There is a hard plastic black vacuum line that I broke when installing Vegetable oil conversion stuff. I am wondering if ya-all have any advice.
The car is a 1983 300cd turbo. The line comes out of a 3 way rubber Y fitting and goes up over the oil filter and down the firewall directly behind the valve cover. It is black and "all by itself" and not bundled with the others that are more on the driver's side. It seems to have brought some roughness into the shifting. Any advice would be appreciated. Mark

Where was the break? Electrical tape did wonders for me. But then, so did new vac line. Detail you're problem, and I know I can help you.

If the line is broken I would either put a rubber connector on the to brokern ends, or get a non-broken line from the men's mall, aka junkyard.

more detail
well, I think the original post was pretty detailed, but here is some more.
The break is directly between the engine and the firewall, just above the transmission. It is rather tight there and very difficult to impossible to get human hands down to the break. Maybe if I get the car up on ramps or something, I can see where it goes, disconnect it, repair it, and put it back in. Does this sound like it will work? Repairing the hose is a great idea, thanks.

you guys are the best
I like the rubber fitting idea.
I could probably slip int on the bottom piece with some long needlenose pliers or something and then push the top one into it. Or put it on the top half first and slip that over the bottom piece. What readily available thing can I use for this...hmmm..? Mark

You just need a piece of rubber hose that will fit snugly over the hard tube. Take a piece of the tube to the hardware store and buy a couple of feet (a lifetime supply).

A lot of the plastic lines are old and brittle now. The dealer sells the brand new stuff. It's called "Tecalan" line and it's 4mm in diameter. Relatively cheap. Just replace it.

Disconnect the line from the modulator and from the Y up in the engine bay, so you have both pieces in hand. Put the connector on the broken spot. Then weave the line back down the way it was and reconnect.
The only draw back is now you have one more piece of rubber than can case leaks and its a hard one to get to, but it will do the job for a good while.
