300SD Tuneup Update

So... replaced the oil and various filters as well as replaced the glow plugs but the car seems to be louder and idles roughly. I guess the next thing to do is to do a valve adjustment.

Took em nearlya slong to replace glow plug 5 as it was to do all the rest and in the end it tested by far the worst. I think it was much older than the rest..probably because somebody gaveup on on replacing it??

Anyway I hope to see some results after doing the valve adjustment. I'll probably put in new engine mounts as well.

check your air cleaner mount...one of the three rubber shocks were broken off (the metal on the mount complelty snapped off) and the can was vibration and the idle was rough..one could feel it in the cabin...i got a new bracket has some additional steel welded to it for support and the idle is smoother and i cant feel it like i used to in the cabin !

diesel purge

running a couple of cans of diesel purge will help your idle - do a search for tips (don't just pour into the gas tank - run it direct - do a search and you'll see what I mean)

Defintely do a valve adjustment.

GP 5 is not that bad to do if you have the right tools and it isn't frozen in there with years of rust.

I gave mine a generous amount of never-sieze and I have no problems whipping the plugs in/out as necessary.

It wasn't frozen.. it's just that the oil filter is in the way so I had to simply use an open ended wrench making lots of tiny quarter turns to unthread/rethread the darn thing.
