Yeah...........maybe one day. The SD had the best chance of this. It was running below $1K until I did the complete underhood overhaul.

I've got it up here (CT) for the week and it's running flawlessly. Having no blower is the only downside.

I bet its cold as can be inside that car without the blower!

You should have borrowed one from the SDL, they are simple enough to change.

It's not too bad after about 15 miles or so. The heat does come on very strongly, even without the blower.

The blower is not the problem. It works fine. I've also tested two regulators and neither one will operate the blower. So, it's either the PBU or the blower resistors. Just haven't had the time, or the desire, to track it down in the cold.

from a bank repo. it had various relatively minor issues. dented fender, window regulator, bad battery, water in the carpet and such. we cleaned it up, fixed the fender and some minor rust inthe rear wheel well spiffed it lup and sold it for a profit of i think 1500 after paying my guy and the painter to do the work. that was about ten or twelve years ago when an 83 300dt was worth about 6500.

of course about two weeks later i blew the vac pump, breaking my cam and stuff on my 300td and would have been money ahead if i had had the 300dt for the spare motor!

Funny you mention that price. My '83 300DT was a straight trade for a '90 Lincoln Town Car. The agreed upon price of both of them was $6000. The year was 1996. The M/B had just over 100K on the clock. The Lincoln had the same.

The Lincoln was a fantastic car. I owned it from three years of age to six years of age. It had a great ride and could get 27 mpg on the highway.

Naturally, since it was a Ford, you didn't want to continue to own it after six years.

The ride of the W123 and the driving position certainly left something to be desired when compared to the Lincoln. But, the depreciation of the Lincoln was simply a disgrace. $9K disappeared within three years!

if you have kept the 300dt up like i know you have, it is prob still worth 6500 or so, right?

and if you drive slowly and never push in a curve the lincoln will be fine. for me who likes a little g force in a corner now and then, only a benz will do.

I sold the 300D to another forum member for $2700. This was about four years ago. I had driven it about 100K in the five years that I owned it and it had about 200K at that time. It was a very good vehicle and didn't require too much costly repairs........other than the a/c........twice.

Yes, the Lincoln was not a vehicle to push through curves. It's forte was smooth highway cruising.

I've been driving the SD for a few weeks now and I've been pushing it a bit since it's more agile than the SDL. Been thinking of you when I do it.

when i was a kid of about eleven i had the opportunity to drive a quarter midget a few times in races. the fun of cornering fast has stuck with me for a lifetime!

oh yeah, i also read in about the eighth grade a book called "the red car". it was about a kid who bought a red mg tc wrecked and fixed it up to race in a road race. after that only a european car would do. first a simca (junk but excellent handling for a sedan), then a ah sprite bugeye (junk but fantastic handling), then a valient slant six (yuck handling but excellent durability), then a 61 fintail 220b, then a 62 fintail 190c.....etc etc. the benzes have the best compromise between quality, agility, safety and reasonable enough economy.

hope you have some fun with it. the sdl will do fine too its just a little bigger. like a woman who weighs a little more than she used to but can still dance. or a man.
