Yes, I understand. I have also specified flex hoses for critical service that cost more than my house (seriously), but that doesn't give me any confidence that the local shop is going to do it correctly and I'm sure I would not have any recourse if it failed and killed my engine. I would also prefer to keep it correct.

I do know that my indy would not install my new (used) engine without using replacement OEM hoses, and that he would warrantee the damage if the hose he selected was to fail. For me that's enough reason to use the correct parts.

As I said, if I was considering buying a car with non-standard oil lines, I would definitely think twice about what else might be installed, and I would replace the lines immediately if I bought the car.
