Goldenbear-1987 300SDL
Goldenbear,
I was looking at the site that is linked to the 603 cracked head thread, about your 300SDL. I have to say, thats an encredibly clean engine for 144K miles. I was looking at the pump, is that a brand new replacement ? I'm new to Mercedes Diesels, but learning fast. I've a nice 190D, with plans to fit an OM606 with OM603 fuel injection pump, like the finns do. Would I be right in saying that is an OM603 T in your 300SDL ? Could someone tell me what an OM617 is and the rest of this series, are these older engines ? Any info. much appreciated. DM |

617.xxx is a five cylinder iron block head diesel
616.xxx is a 4 cyl. Both are simular in design concept and both were used in vehicles in hmmm. 1970's thru the 80's. The 617 also had a turbo version I may be wrong on some of the finer details. Others will chime in and correct me.

Goldenbear does indeed have a very nice 300SDL, its one of the best examples I know of. He also spends a few bucks to keep it that way.
I remember the IP from his records, he had his MB dealer install a brand new one. I don't remember what he said it cost, I think just under $2k.
