Headlight Switch - '83 300D - Is it supposed to be illuminated?

Is the headlight switch supposed to be illuminated when the lights are on? All my other switches are illuminated when the switch is turned on. If it is supposed to be lit up, is bulb replacement easy?

Thanks folks!

Keith

No. The only thing that illuminates is the orange button in the middle of the knob when you pull it on for the fog lights.

I was wondering if that orange light is supposed to light up with the fog lights on!.... my w202 has a light in the same place that does, so I guess the one in my w123 is burnt out. I havent really given that whole knob area a good look but is it easy to replace the bulb?

Just pull the knob off.

I think your knob lights only becuase you have a euro model.

Never seen any of my cars ever light theirs even after replacing with known good bulbs.

Sounds like one of those odd wiring euro/US differences

The knob only illuminates when you have the rear foglight on (pull the switch out twice, Euro model only). You can probably re-wire it if you wanted to (for the US model).. but it isn't terribly useful.

If I ever have a time when I am working on my car and have LOTS of time....I might try to wire that little light in the switch to come on whenever the lights are on at all....park/regular etc.......it serves as a good reminder that they're on. (in addition to the buzzer of course) Plus its just that much cooler...

Both of my 123's knobs light up when the fog lights are on, US and Euro. I do agree it does't do much good since it seems I have to look down because the wheel is in the way.
