fuel mileage
I just got back from a 440 miles of road with my 240 diesel. I showed a bit over 30 mpg on the trip. Is this acceptable for this size of diesel?

Depending on how fast you drove it is fine.

Have yet to check, but I will check this week, using my handheld GPS. I also have a 1984 Isuzu diesel pickup, manual 4 speed, 501,000 miles. MPG is 35-36 , but no air. Reason I bought 240d is it is a diesel and has air. Too hot in NC to drive without AC. sure hope this 240d can last as long as a cheap isuzu pickup. |

I've hit 31.5 in the SD before and 34.4 in the SDL too. Granted I was just putting along the interstate around 60-65mph it's pretty good I think. That's with AC off and windows up. Fuel is from Valero almost always (refined here in Texas) and I use some Power Service stuff. About 5-7oz per tank.
I'm not a quick driver on the freeway usually (I'm the esoteric guy hanging out in the center or left lane rocking out and eating some fruit ), at times I'll hit 70-75 for the hell of it but... I'd rather spend an extra 30min driving and pick up 2-4mpg than to get there just a bit sooner. I'm hardly ever in a rush when driving. FWIW - only the SD has working Cruise. SDL still doesn't work. I've tried three amps and four servos. Time to trade them all in as cores I think and maybe I can get some decent cash off for both reman.

I averaged 30mpg out of the 240D last month but that was somewhat hilly terrain along 101 with 2 passengers a full tank of biodiesel, SVO, #2 cocktail. Then again that was only one trip so we'll have to see what the average will be.
Rebe, to be completely accurat, verify accuracy with the odometer, fill it up to the neck and drive it and see what you get over the course of 5 fillups. |
