Black Mold on Third Seat!?

I had some black mold forming in the third seat compartment in my 300TD. When I first purchased the car I noticed the dampness there and chalked it up to a leaking rear window seal or something. Well as time passed I started to get stuffed up on my way to work and then I got really sick.

I opened that third seat up and it had black dots of mold all over it. ( I live in Florida so mold is really common, everywhere) So I sprayed the entire cabin down with a water/alcohol mix and then blasted it with an ozone generator for about 3 hours.

No more smell and I think the car should be mold free. (for a while) So if your getting sick when you drive check that compartment out for any mold spores, that just may be your problem...I believe it is the perfect setting for spores to multiply, cool, wet and dark! Next I get to look in the TANK! Anyone near me here in SW Florida is welcome to use my ozone generator, just PM me.

Pull up the carpet under the third seat, and inspect the surface. There isn't much metal between that carpet and the exterior of the car, so a little rust or hole could give water an easy way in. If you find a hole or a little rust, you'd want to get it taken care of soon, it has a way of spreading pretty scarily!

Fortunately the MBtex is tough stuff, just keep it aired out for a while to let the foam dry, and the vinyl will be fine.

peace,
sam
