I think honda is refering to merc diesels

Take a look at this commercial
(http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1493852526633952872&q=diesel)

Honda has come out with their first diesel and its being sold in the UK in their accord and coming here to the US in late 2006. They have been awarded for making the cleanest diesel to date! Europe has certain emission standards for their diesels and the honda diesel easily passed the emission testing but cleaner then they expected.

The commercial describes slow smokey diesel and i think they are talking about our merc diesels

Pesonally i love the clatter of a diesel thats something thats missing on the new passat tdi

A thread from last month on a similiar commercial:
Honda might give diesel image a boost
I've grown weary of advertising that doesn't explain why a product is different or superior, just showing alot of unrelated (albeit flashy) stuff. This is a good example. Lots of colors and special graphics, along with a song to with it all, but I don't have a clue as to what innovations Honda may now or in the future have regarding new diesel engines. For me to contemplate buying a new diesel Honda (if I had that kind of money) I'd be more swayed with facts, such as mileage, warranty, power, etc. The car would probably never make it to the U.S.A. due to epa and dot prevention. It was suggested in the last thread that market research by the mfgr would determine if it was sold here, if that were true I'd say then it should be sold
here, as I have not seen a new TDI at a VW Dealer in many months.

as i read that post i see that people dont realize that we already have those audi diesels here! the A4 tdi is the same exact thing as the VW passat tdi that we now own. I know there are many VW tdi's out there you just gotta look for them, their are more tdi's available in california then there are merc E300 diesels and california have the stictest restrictions on new diesels! but i still see Merc E320 cdi's just flowing on autotrader at many merc dealers and i see many and many TDI's as well at dealers but the passat is the rarest of them all only 3 were here compared to a crap load of jetta, golf, and bettle tdi's.

And the smart car is available in diesel here from certain importers i know green car co. is importing them here.

Honda is bringing their new diesel here later 2006 now that we have that "clean diesel" tax credit, low sulfur diesel, and bio-diesel available. Toyota has plans for bringing the landcruiser and corolla diesel as well. Just wait and see before you know it diesel vehicles will be common here just like they are in the UK.

If this was a GM or Ford commercial I'd agree 100%.

Honda on the other hand has a long reputation of high tech and innovative engineering. And unlike some european manfacturers the products they bring to market are fully bebugged BEFORE they are sold to the public.

If Honda brings a Diesel accord to the USA I'm betting it will sell very well - I'd certainly test drive one since at 55K the CDI is just way too expensive for my tastes.

I believe if it is as good as the reviews say it is, then the Jetta Tdi will have to be retired. My wife loves the Honda's and the diesel is a HUGE plus.

Why o why can't they just make a damned commercial that actually tells you something? What that one needed is a USAF jet delivering napalm to torch that whole damned touchy-feely, tofu-fartin', tree huggin' shebang about 5-6 seconds into it. Now that would "change somethin" I agree that Honda makes a very good product and if they bring their diesel to the US I would certainly look into them. As long as they fire their ad agency.

BTW, they couldn't have been refering to MB diesels.... They made no reference at all to classy transportation that will last 500K!!

No matter how gay that commercial is, remember it is for England/Europe and they do have different ways of advertising. Notice how long it was too. I actually work for Honda R&D here in Ohio and I haven't heard anything about a diesel in one of our cars but I am salivating for one too. I have heard a little about an Isuzu diesel but it was not in reference to any particular Honda vehicle. Honda being the largest engine manufacturer in the world would hopefully use their own design but maybe not. I'm still tickled that we sell engines to GM for the VUE.

Yepper, every Honda engine I've ever worked on - small engine, motorcycle, car has been pretty darn well sorted out. Nobody's perfect, but Honda really does refine things well before going to market. Drives you crazy as a supplier, but that's another issue! I'd definitely be interested in an Accord diesel.

I'm fairly pleased with the '05 Passat TDI, but things are rattling under the dash at idle with only 13,500 miles and 6 months on it. Instrument cluster began some odd behaviors last night - dealer will replace next week when a new cluster arrives. I've asked them to chase some of the rattles in the dash while they're in there. We shall see.

I do miss the diesel clatter. The Passat only sounds good coming off of idle in very cold weather. Once it warms up it's very quiet...oh well. Exhaust just smells like hot air too. Kind of takes the fun out of it but quiet, clean diesels are the future and it's not too far off. Even the big Cummins engines are going to be much, much quieter next year and the '07 Dodge Ram (Cummins B series) is going to be mistaken for a gasser. Where's the fun in that?!
