Thumbs up Totally Awesome!!!!

SsangYong Motor Company of Korea licensed the W124 design and continues to produce a stretched version of the W124 as the Chairman, with a Daewoo badge. It has a 2.9 m wheelbase and 3.2 L Mercedes straight-6 engine."

I would LOVE one of these!!

I wonder how much this would cost in US dollars and if it would be possible to have it shipped here? I could definately put the star back on it!!

DOWNLOAD THE catalog (right hand) to view many color pics.

I WOULD LOVE TO GET MY HANDS ON A USED ONE OF THESE

Makes me wonder, why did Mercedes Benz do that? I don't know about the looks of it. It looks like its got the grille of the 95 W124, The Rear End of a Jaguar, Headlights from a Ford 500, and a back door fron a Caddy.

Now, if brabus were to make a version of it, I may consider it.

It would be interesting to see how similar they are to the actual 124... Like, is it just the outer body design that looks the same, or are actual parts, like switches, seats, dashes and headlights the same too? Probably a combination, but the further from an 'actual' 124, the harder it would be to maintain and find parts.

Generally, its incredibly difficult to bring in new foreign cars, because of the extreme amount of testing required to sell a car in the US. Safety, emissions, crash tests, etc.

Up until recently, the 75 super beetle was being produced in mexico in an almost perfectly stock state (just modern light switches, which was funny looking), but they were next to impossible to bring over, because a 75 car built in 2001 doesn't meet 2001's standards. It was a 75 in all ways, except that the US considered it 'new', so it couldn't come across the border.

I've heard of people doing things like importing a rolling chassis, then putting their own engine in it and registering it as a 'kit car' or something, but I'm sure its a tricky process, with the govt trying to thwart you at every turn.

Would be cool though... Get a factory OM603, put it into a brand new '124' chassis, and get rolling.

peace,
sam

But a 124 engine the inline 3.2, six-cylinder would most probably pass the emissions for 2006. Don't you think? I would actually go to one of thise countries just to bring one back. Does anyone know how that would be done and the process involved in bringing a car from overseas that is not actually sold here in USA?
Thanks

Similar shapes but different components.
Looks like the wood is fake?

Interior

I think I'd rather have a mint condition vintage Mercedes...
but I'd probably choose this thing over one of the Acura/Lexus/Infinity sedan clones
that Mercedes is offering in 2006.

Puzzling that a company would make an investment like this
and fail to have someone write the copy, who can speak English fluently.
So many people speak English nowadays, they probably have factory workers
who could have done a better job.

Thats the thing, even if it WOULD pass emissions, it DIDN'T pass emissions, because the company never bothered to try. There is more to an emissions test than what you do every two years at the station, a company has to prove that their car meets federal requirements before they are allowed to be imported.

Now, again, not saying its not possible, but be prepared for a hassle.. I'll see if I can find more information, I do remember reading a bit about people managing to bring in those new/old beetles from mexico.

peace,
sam

Thanks, I don't think that this thing has airbags. Do you know if that is a requirement in every car now?

If you guys like them fine. Not for me though. It's not a Benz. I would own a Trabant before one of those pseudo-Benzs. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

Wonder if the head gasket issue has been resolved? It would be interesting to see a pic of the engine. Seems they have a MB five speed in there for the gear changing - interesting.

all people would do is bring an older beetle pan without engine.. swap everything onto that pan since the design was the same and register it as a 71 or w/e year the pan was.. and they still get away with it

I would definately buy one of these before I bought a kia or hyundai or a camry or an accord or an acura. The most important components, i.e engine, trans, chassis are all Mercedes. As far as electronics are concerned, have you looked in the back of your DVD player and seen where its made? All electronics are now either being made in Korea or China. I would definately tend to believe that this car, although NOT a 100% BENZ, would be a joy to have and I'm sure it would be reliable. I will definately look into buying one and have it imported to USA
