Would You Buy This Car With So Little Info?

It continue to amaze me that people would bid on a car with so little information. This buyer (0 feedback) provides only 5 pictures, and little info on the condition. Sunroof inoperable, but what about rust? I would never bid on a car with so sparse information and pictures. Would you?

Sure, I'd bid...

but $6,000, like TWO bidders have? I don't think so.

Top bidder has NO Ebay rating.... Deadbeat alert!
Second bidder has 26 buys with all positive.

Makes me wonder if any of the bidders might have inspected the car.

How NOT to buy a MB Diesel:
Know little or nothing about diesels or Mercedes Benz.
Get the WVO fever.
Drive 70 miles to a used car lot in the country.
Buy the car without having it inspected, because it seems like a good idea at the time....
I'll be back. I'm gonna need help.
I love this car already!

"minor" damage on right front fender, but don't let any pics of the damage show anything. Never for me..

I'd RUN from that one. The zero feedback from the seller AND the high bidder are good signs of shill bidding. And what, we needed to see two pictures of the grill or was it the owner needed for us to see him "stike a pose" in one of them INSTEAD of taking a VERY necessary picture of the damage fender??? SHADY...even for ebay

The only thing I can say is that if your near the car in question it might be a good thing when people post auctions like that. Its essentially a classifiyed listing and not an auction. He did list his phone number so it's possible he sent more photos to people who asked. Ebay doesn't allow you to upload that many photos unless hosted somewhere else so the bidders might have seen more then we know.

"Owned and maintained by 25 year Mercedes Benz technichian."

Doesn't seem to match...

I didn't buy my wagon on ebay, but I did buy it, sight unseen, 800 miles away, with very little info in the classified ad. The ad literally said, "82 300td, 240k, silver, drives, 2400$ - xxx-xxx-xxxx". But when I contacted the guy, he emailed me a bunch of descriptions, answered all my questions, sent me a ton of pictures, etc. He actually WAS a mercedes technician, and we even took the car to the dealership he worked at so I could put it up on a lift and look around before paying.

So sometimes the low info ads are a boon. If you contact the person and get the details, you might find its a better buy than you thought (and better yet, a better buy than everyone else thought, keeping the price low!)

But the possibility of shill bidding is a bit touchy... If i were close though, I'd still go visit the car, just to see if its a diamond in the rough. you know?

peace,
sam

If you could look at it in person it may be a decent car. I wouldn't bid unless I knew more then was in the auction.
