That would be useful if I could only find replacement visors. I've given up; they're too rare and costly. I have a nice pair of black ones and am contemplating dyeing them but to tell the truth cracked dashes and broken sunvisor mirrors are beneath body and mechanicals on my list of priorities with this car. Can't find the parts and when you do the cost is absurd so screw it. Mine work for keeping the sun out of my eyes.

Looks like W124s have the same mirror assembly as well. W210 and W201 are a maybe.

One important detail - the mirror assemblies for 1986-on cars are DIFFERENT although they look very similar. MB changed the contacts for the lighting from the outer pivot points to a spring loaded contact switch in the center. The entire mirror assembly may be physically interchangeable across pre and post 1986, models but the flip open doors are not! Also, the electrical contacts on 1986-on cars are soldered directly to a board that bridges the two bulbs. The earlier version uses spade connectors.

I ordered a pair of powered palamino sunvisors from a guy on Ebay, and in his description, he said they would fit 300D, 300CD, 300TD, etc. - only around $100. Of course, when I tried putting them on my coupe, they didn't fit. I left negative feedback because they didn't fit the car listed in the ad, and it took the guy a month to refund my money. The feedback he left me says that I don't know what car I have, so it wasn't his fault. If that didn't get my goat!
Anyway, is there maybe some way of covering these visors with an iron on fabric or something? I have just about given up on finding lighted palamino coupe visors. |

Hot glue and Hot Interior
This is a good write up in the Wiki. I had to replace both of our lighted mirror assemblies in our 85 W123. we have black interior, and finding black int. is not common. I used blue mirrors from a W126, and are not all that noticeable unless really looking at them closely.
The Wike mentions Hot Glue was used. I used it also, but on a hot day (100deg) with the windows rolled up, the glue let go and the mirror was hanging by the wires. I cleaned up the glue, and had a glass shop squirt in some Urathane sealant to glue it in. This will never come apart. The hinges on 126 mirrors are an up grade from what was used on the earlier mirrors like used in our 123. Charlie

I've got an 84 and the replacements on E-Bay right now need to be soldered in. Does anyone know if I could cut off the spade connectors from my visors and then solder the wires to the post 86 visor wires? Thanks

A better option would be to replace the spade connectors.
