some buying advise for a 1 year newbie=)
mother and i stopped off at a little mercedes lot we havent seen before.
the diesels in stock: 1991 350sd sounded like it had a rod knock, beat up. but it started without him glowing it for no more than 3 seconds. 8500 for that one 124 body 2.5 turbodiesel i liked this one a great deal but he didnt seem like he wanted to talk about it. there was a 126 300sd in the back i asked about-- "you dont want that one!" he says. why not? i asked... it has no battery and its been sitting for 5 years. when i had it running, it would only go 40mph tops. (it needs filters/throttle adjustment i am sure) he said 2,000 for that one. i did not check the condition of the vehicle, but what should i offer? i am going to go over there and start low-- around 500 bux. it needs a grille, shined up, and a headlight surround from what i could tell. the not running correctly thing, missing pieces thing works for me. the rest were all 140 220 and 210 chassis cars. whats the best way to ease into lowball negotiations?

Tonnes of info there....best of luck. Make sure you check the banjo bolt....my car ran like a top when I bought it in September, and I only checked the banjo bolt yesterday - completely blocked off.

my father is a mechanic/crane operator. his diesel crane has run for 26 years under his care and mechanickin skills.
he'll go with, last time i just bought the car for what the guy was asking. this time i intend to do some dickering. i figure i will check it completly out myself, deduct everything i see(on a pad of paper) from the retail price of the car. just knowing my cars trouble spots, i am sure ill know whats wrong with an s body. this car is worth no more than 750 the way it sits(on the open market-- noone wants a car with problems) so i am going to try and negotiate accordingly.
