Split boots

I have a 1983 Mercedes 240D and am looking for split axel boots. My MB is a weekend car so I want to avoid the 7+ hours of labor to install the real boots. Talked with the FastLane folks and they said they cannot get the split boots. Someone posted the number 110 357 05 91 as a kit they got many years ago along with a special clip installation tool # 111 589 06 37.

FastLane said that if anyone woould know the Diesel folks woujld know. Now that the FastLane folks put you on a pedestal can anyone help me?

Thanks

I really hate split boots. Messy to install, and seldom seal. But knock yourself out; it's really not hard to pull the axle and put a real boot on it.

JC Whitney had the recommended brand of split axle boots at one time. Have not checked their latest catalog. They also have jcwhitney.com that you may be able to search on for these items.

An alternative might be rebuilt axles, although personally I did the new GCN replacements.

Agree with you on splits, it's very difficult to assemble without getting any grease or contaminant in the glue seam.
Agree that it isn't hard to pull an axle, but disassembling it to replace the boot can be a different matter. I vote for a replacement OEM axle, either used or new, not rebuilt unless you REALLY know and trust the rebuilder.
