I envision something that can be effectively soundproofed.

Seems like a way to live off of the grid, in a rural area
that would require far less of a 'start up' investment,
compared to something like solar.

A trip once a week to gather WVO and you're set.

You have a well, you have a satellite dish...
what else do you need?
I'd love to do that with an old 240D engine..... My neighbor's house is pretty close on one side, though.... so I'd have to do some very good soundproofing. Maybe I could put it in my garage (which is separate from my house) and vent the exhaust out the back, and lay some pipes to circulate the coolant over into the crawlspace of the house and use it to heat water!

Dammit, now you've got me thinking too much.... I need a project like that like I need a hole in my head!

Mike

thats a 3600 rpm gen head.. the benz engine probably wont last long.. you can probably get away with setting up a belt system where its a 1:2 system.. or just fess up and get a lister now those are bullet proof diesel engines

That's a good point.
They'll have to go back to small wheels, to use wide whitewalls.
Wouldn't small wheels give a softer ride, where large wheels give better high speed handling?

The whitewalls look pretty good on this baby:

( what do you think a car like that is worth?? )

Years back, a carpenter down here had a source of all the last old growth
Mahogany timber on Key Largo.
He built this stunning sailing vessel that looked like a pirate ship,
out of these huge thick planks.

He took me sailing and I was amazed by his one lung diesel...
and how slow the thing could turn.

He started making runs to the Bahamas, bringing them frozen beef.
His boat eventually got caught in a storm and sunk.
