Its' Road Trip Time Folks

Headed out to KS, MO to retrieve the '84 300SD from BraveRichard tomorrow, voltage regulator in hand. ~1,200 miles and 20+ hours later (travel time) I hope to be back in AZ. Sunday night in Amarillo, TX. Monday with the King of All Media. :P

Lookn' forward to a little 'windshield time' across our great country. Last venture was Flagstaff, AZ to Piqua, Ohio in '99. I'm overdue!

Trip update and pics to follow, if anyone is interested...

Good luck on that trip.

AFAIK, the SD is in fine shape and shouldn't give you any problems.

I certainly wish you better luck than I recently had with the SDL. :o

Keep us posted.

Brian, I'm planning on buying 10 gallons of oil at the closest Wally-World B4 departure.

:)

Have fun and good luck, hopefully it is an uneventfull trip.

Oilbrnr 01-09-2006 03:45 AM

And it was uneventful, from anything negative. The last two hours from Winslow down via Pine and Payson were the best. Almost midnight, stars out, roof open, tunes on and the SD purring along. Then there were Cow Elk, and one doe that I had to avoid! :D

Overall she ran well with good power. 24.6-25.4 mpg at ~70+, headwinds most of OK and TX. Sector gear on the steering box needs adjustment. Throttle linkage was a real bear to depress, so I broke down in Gallup, NM and got some WD-40 and sprayed the linkage including the ball/sockets. MUCH better. Cruise control oscillates on downhills.

Rough idle. I've already scanned through a couple of threads about the rack damper. I'll try an adjustment tomorrow, it probably needs a new one, due to fatigue. I also need to adjust the valves and IP. Interestingly enough, it idled pretty smooth at 7,000'...

Today, I'm off to Emissions and the DMV to change title. That will be four hours of my life I'll like to have back!

Hatterasguy 01-09-2006 10:56 AM

Good luck, going to the DMV is like visiting Gestapo headquarters...

Glad to here you had a good trip! Your milege seems off a few mpgs, I'd expect high 20's for the kind of driving you did. Nothing a valve adjustment and some tunning can't fix though.
