After sitting for 10 years. I drove it tonight.

My 300D (year 1980 which I bought in 1984) sat for 10 years
in my backyard. Put in used engine from a donor last week.

Tonight I started it and backed it out of garage.

Thanks to everyone who answered my calls for help in the other threads.

Not sure I'll take any long trips in it, now it needs shiny paint,
but at least I got something for around town.

what happened to the original engine?? Seems like a very early failure if it died in 1995??

Congrats. Never resurrected one myself, but glad to hear you are driving it. I have my eye on a lonely girl that is sitting in someone's front lawn across town.....

Definitely, congrats. Once they sit for 10 years, it's usually curtains.

I had a '72 Mustang with a 351 Cleveland that sat for 10 years. Had to finally agree that it was never getting restored. Still hurts.

Rhodes-congrats on getting the old girl going again. Many happy miles to you.

I used to have a '63 Dodge Dart that sat in a barn for 20 years. PO pulled the (great running) slant six to repower his '65 Baracuda after he blew the original in a drag race. I dropped in a '79 360 out of a Cordoba and drove for several years before selling it in 2001. I never met the new owner. Dad sold it for me while I was in the Navy.

The original engine had 295,000. And... I probably did not take very
good care of it. I am reformed now and vow to treat this engine
(which comes to me with 100K from the original owner) much better.
Regular oil changes will be included.

Wow 295,000 in less than 15 years That thing must have been doing freeway trips ALL the time!! Thats around 20,000 miles a year, consistently. Wshew. My car would have 480,000+ by now at that rate...

Understood.

I had '71 Buick Centurion convertible that lost the tranny. After I first parked it, I was religous about starting it one a week and then, once a month and then...oh well you know the story. Sold it on eBay after the Benzes started showing up.

Jeeze. My driveway was a lot cleaner back then...
