Help on Loose (vacuum?) wires... w/ pics

Hi Guys,

I just acquired an 82 300SD. I noticed several wires disconnected under the hood. Please help me identify where is should be properly soldered. I don't know how it currently affects my car's performance but from what I have read, I have several vacuum related problems like power locks, shifting, and non working climate control. That is why I'm wondering if it will help if I can solder these wires back to their original connection.

TIA

My recently acquired 82 300sd pics is here

that device you circled and those wire are not vacuum. That is your cruise control actuator and its wires.

the vacuum pump is lower on the engine on that same side. If you follow the thick vacuum line from the brake cylinder you'll find it.

Door lock are on a separate system then the engine's vacuum. the pump is located in the trunk, in the spare tire well underneath that metal plate on right hand side.

Power Locks - Open the trunck and cycle the locks at the drivers door and listen for the pump. (It is located in the corner of the spare tire well.) Also, it may be as simple as the flex line at the pump needs replaced.

Shifting - Could also be flex fittings on vacuum lines. Low $ replacement.

Climate control - Define not working. No blower? Defrost only? No heat? Fluctuating?

Shifting and Climate control could also be symptoms of a weak vacuum pump. Have you checked it with a guage? There are rebuild kits available.

Thanks james

Now it's getting clearer... I am particularly interested at the moment on what is the proper connection of the cruise control actuator. I hate and am afraid seeing these wires exposed. It's also an easier job to solder them first as my first DIY project. I know I have several issues to address on this new baby of mine, but it would be nice to start with this simple soldering first. I would appreciate it somebody can provide what wire color shoukd be soldered to where.

TIA

I think it died back in 83 I found a serivice receit for it asking for $212 for a replacement. My car is a 82.

This is what my 82 300SD had for that connector.
Hope it helps.

Thanks a bunch!

Pic is great! Now I know where each wire goes to. I really appreciate all replies above. I will also check the vacuum controls for the doos locks which now know to be under the spare tire. You guys have been very helpful.
