hey,

Just curious...why do you need the picture? Thinking of converting to a KKK?

For an unmodified daily driver...would probably be nice (the boost coming on at a lower RPM).

For those of us who mod...the mid range and top end are important :)

id like to know what i have.. and maybe down the line a KKK exchange.. but... i might harken back to my mitsubish tuner days and borrow their big gun 16g turbo.. and modify the intake and exhaust manifolds to accept it and put an a/a intercooler in the fender wall.. i can probably make an intercooler from a 3000GT fit..

The KKK turbo has a name plate on the front surface of the compressor housing.

The Garret has "AirResearech" cast into it.

Pretty identifiable.

the garret wastgate points forward in the car the KKK points sideways....

I have a T3 on the SD and the KKK on the shelf, and the L has a KKK also. :D

TheDon 01-10-2006 08:28 PM

i was looking under my air cleaner at the turbo and i see this thing that looks like a model airplane engine sticking out of the side of the turbo it was pointing to the right with a tube coming out of it..

Oh, if you have an '85 you have the Garrett. I've never seen a KKK on one as '85s had different emission systems on them. :)

awww.. looks like im going to need a KKK one day.. after i get it painted after i get it painted..

Hit Man X 01-10-2006 08:37 PM

I got my KKK for the SD for $30 or somethin at PickNSteal here on a 1/2 price day last summer.

TheDon 01-10-2006 08:39 PM

THe Garret used is a T-3........I think that 16G may be smaller... the KKK is a tad smaller and peaks lower than th eT-3

I always keep my eyes open, seems almost all the cars have Garretts. Out of twenty 3.0L diesels, I've seen only that one. Came from a 1984 SD, it was blue. 398K mi or something insane.

TheDon 01-10-2006 08:43 PM

hitman if you ever find one ill pay you for it.. but in the mean time check this out

http://www.slowboyracing.com/shop.php?sid=&cat=4130

garrett turbo center section upgrades.. i wonder if the garrette in my car would be elligible

Hit Man X 01-10-2006 08:47 PM

The ones on the 3.0L TDs were basic T3s only. There are larger exhaust housings available (more HP potential), larger compressor wheels, housings, etc. Tons of things can be done with that, heck you can have the T3 exhaust flange but a T4 cold side even.

I like the KKK as the wastegate is easier to adjust and it's not a common turbo. Plenty of parts for them too as Audi and Porsche used them big time in the '80s to '90s.
