Turbo diesel in my 240D

Would like to pull the motor out of my wrecked 1982 300D and put it in my great condition but slow 240D. It looks like all the mounts are the same, but I would like to see if anybody out there has done this allready. How much hassle?

Thanks for the advice. Found a long thread of someone trying it. Seems like maybe more effort than result. Is there any aftermarket turbo kits that would enhance performance on the 4 cylinder.

That has also been discussed.

The short answer is, don't bother. You will spend a lot of $$, get so-so results, and if done incorrectly, you will damage or destroy the engine.

only if you want to blow it up......the non-turbo engines lack certain things that make them live with a turbo...such as underpiston oil jets and nitrided cranks....plus injection pump changes.

the total conversion

is a lot of work but it is 99.99% bolt in. i paid my indie about 1300 labor to do mine. but that was a few years back and they have raised their rates now.

Are you saying that the 300D turbo motor going into the 240D chassis is 99%bolt in? It looks like it would be. I have both complete cars so I think I would have all the parts I need. From radiator to rear end. Its just that the body on the 1982 300 is history and now the interior is in the 1984 300. I would really like to restore the 240 to pristine cause it is really the best condition of the 3 MB's that I have. Just would like a little better performance out of it. Kinda new at this Mercedes thing but I've jumped in head first.

yep

bolt in totally except that there is a motor mount on the backside of the 240 engine that is not used and must be removed if the 300 motor is put in. also the second motor shock mount must be fabricated from angle iron.

i had a 300 non turbo euro put in a us spec 240. it was a sweet little car. i have sold it along recently, now.

Tranny

You have to change the tranny with the 300D turbo tranny. The 240 used the non turbo tranny. Beside that the one engine shock needs to be changed and a few more mods have to be done and your good.
