PLEASE Help Toasted Strip fuse on the relay
Greetings All,
I had to have my sweet 82 300CDT towed yesterday I think she will be allright with a few minor adjustments Some help if one may... I was preparing myself to change the glow plugs, the symptom was no glow plug light and won't start. Thanks to trusty Whunter and the Dieselgiant.com I began by removing #1, but alas a thought entered my brain (by reading the instructions) the "Strip fuse" located on the Relay, easy enough to check pop the top and it is toast! Now the question... do I replace the Strip fuse (if yes with a 30 or 80 amp), should I go ahead and replace the Relay (or how to test??) and of course I think (pleasssssse correct me if I am wrong) put in at least the #1 glow plug. Thanks for all you guys do... Joe 82 CDT Named Webasto (I am sure many of you know why ) 134K baby Last edited by joer2001; 01-17-2006 at 08:37 PM. |

if the fuse is bad you don't get a light.
just change the fuse.

Test glow plug resistance.
#1. Test glow plug resistance, you may have one or more shorted.
#2. Remove the glow plug harness, between relay and glow plugs, OHM test for shorts, extreme visual inspection for cracks/broken insulation. PART NUMBER SEARCH RESULTS WITH PRICES Vehicle 1982 Mercedes Benz 300CD Turbo Part: Strip Fuse Note: 80 Amp for Pre-Glow Relay

Thanks Whunter!!! Always the best!
Oh by the way... that 91 350 I looked at in oct 04, is still on the lot. The dealer told me then he would not take less than 10k, he now has it at 6995.00 really it's a shame, it is a well maintained car...just a bad color. I almost want to offer him 4 but my wife would shoot me.
thanks again. Joe |

I wonder if there is a way to tell if the engine has had "the bends" issue addressed?

Got my new realy and glow plugs from Phil (kit was only 113.00!!) what a deal!
Changed 4 of the 5 glow plugs, old ones looked in great shape, Is there a suggested service interval on glowplugs? Anyway, that and an "italian tune-up" and she's running like a good old mercedes again. Thanks for all you do. Joe |

When you begin to have cold start issues; check the glow plugs first... |
