gas to diesel

i'm new here.

is it possible/feasable to replace the gas engine with a diesel in one of the older sportsters, the convertables and their hardtop counterparts, 80's to early 90's?

cheers,

sv-

May not be true anymore. Mercedes built a SL400CDI Biturbo with 311 horses, available in Europe in 2006. We in the US can dream on!

I want one for my wife.

Seriously, I do. I like the look of the convertibles, and have been looking for a sporty little Mercedes for my wife. But I'd rather get her a diesel, as I bought my first one back in September, and haven't looked back since.

There MUST BE a way to put a diesel in a convertible.......it's only going to come down to $$ and time willing to be spent. The more inventive you are, the cheaper it could be.

Now, if I could find a nice Mercedes diesel to drop into my Grand Cherokee, I'd be in heaven......

oh yeah

a 617 turbo will fit.

fuel lines will have to be adapted.

limited resale market... perhaps... it is debated.

a man after my heart to want this, but i wouldnt do it. i think it would be tough to get your money out of it. it is tough enough to get your money out of stock vehicles when you need to reduce the flock.

Yeah...he edited it to indicate something other than what most people would assume when they hear "Sportster" since my original comment.

"i think it would be tough to get your money out of it."

I dont think hes into it for the investment but my guess is some other "diesel nut" would buy a nice little convertable like that with a 617 in it. I would do it in a hot second if I could do the job myself.
