Snap-on is the best of the best, if you can afford it.

Don't go into shock, when you find yourself making a wish list that totals $750,000.00 USD.

Hoist, four huge tool boxes, alignment rack, wheel balancer, etc, etc...

Two words.......NORTHERN TOOLS!.....I agree snap on is nice but check out www.northerntools.com or go by a store. I have their 1/2 drive and 1/4 drive sockets and the 21-32mm wrenches. Very well made, feels good in hands, lifetime warranty, priced right.

I have some snap-on and craftsman 3/8 drive and the northen tool stuff is just as good IMHO. You can buy sets or individually.

I bought the bulk of my tools 15 years ago with a 300-pc set from Sears/Craftsman. This was a good move to replace the few rinky-dink tools I was laboring with. Since then, I've only had to buy a few small specialty sets as needed.

Lately I've been salivating at the tool offerings at Costco. They're a lot less than I paid 15 years ago for my set. Don't know about the quality.

Make sure you get a variety of tools that may be the same size.... shallow, deep well, 3/8" drive, 1/2" drive, open end, closed end, metric, standard. You'll be glad you did.

I have been really happy with my ratchet/open wrench set. The low profile socket option helps when changing glowplugs and the turbocharger. Lets you just slip in where a conventional socket wrench won't.

I have a few of those. The zero lash is kind of nice but the head is very thick - considerably more so than a regular (geared) Mac ratchet.

Brand new the 3/8" drive ratchet is about $80 from the Mac tools truck, but I paid about half of that on eBay. They have a nice rubber grip but as I mentioned earlier, the heads are too thick and to me, that cancels out most of the benefit of having zero lash.
