Elaborate on your question please...

The 722 is a stout unit.

- Beers tonight for me, otherwise it's rum.

Shifting?

Over time you will find that slightly more specific questions along with associated evidence of prior searching will yeild more usable info, and keep the smartaleks, such as myself, to a minimum...

If I mixed the above liquors I would not be going to work tomorrow. And maybe Wednesday! I have downed a pot of coffee this evening. Almost all 11 cups....

my query is in the general sense.

how do the tranny's hold up?

if an engine can last 250000 miles, how do the tranny's hold up to that, typically?

war stories help, but there should be some decent consensus here.,

Actually very robust trannys, usually lasting in the 200k to 300K range. Some things that break in tranny are actually not that difficult to replace. It is always good to change tranny fluid on a "new to you" MB such as these. Many folks swear by adding TransX (additive), and that made a noticable difference on my '80 wagon.
You can, and should, spend days with the search feature. Great info, and it is a really interesting read.

If the tranny was well-treated, fairly gently driven, and properly maintained, it will have no problem lasting as long as the engine before a rebuild is required for both. My car has 233k on the original tranny, and it works great still.

I have 231K and some coin on the SD, trans shifts well. L is around 220K? I dunno, haven't been in it in forever... the trans shifts fine in there also. I take those out when I'm going long distance freeway. L is parked due to vac pump issues.

Figure city miles are worse on them than highway... HW is only 4th (direct, 1:1) while city is constant upshifts/downshifts.

I don't see the trans not lasting the life of the car unless not cared for properly. Both of mine leak a bit from the front seal, so I just check fluid level weekly when driving them.

Sat I had some CHEAP! rum that I had to chase with beer. I thought I was going to be down for the count, but nope... I was okay enough the next day to operate on that LS400 I despise. At least that junk was free, no way I'd have paid for it.
