so, i have been running for a while wo the insulator on the #6 injector. i note here that this will cause a problem.

so, what does it do? and how long will it take for damage to occur? i need to know if i need to order just an insulator or an insulator and an injector.

You're not talking about the heat shield are you? I think I have seen this contraption before that you're talking about. Is it exposed and wrapped around the injector? If so, then I'm not really sure what its purpose is. Maybe to keep the area around the injector clean? I don't think you really need it though because none of the diesels that I've had have this kind of thing.
