Engine weight

Does anyone out there know how much a 617.952 short block weights? Thanks!

I do not know the exact number but I should think around 450-475 lbs. IIRC a complete engine weighs about 600 lbs so without head and manifolds.....

Try a search, there have been several threads asking this question in the last couple years. I believe I remember that someone said that the bare block weighed close to 300lbs. but I could be wrong or thinking of a different engine.

I asked this same question before putting my engine on a stand.
My 750 lb stand is doing fine with a complete engine including
AC compressor, alternator and PS pump. I would use a four wheeled
stand though, I am going to replace my 3 wheel with one.

If the question comes up because of front spring capacity for
an engine swap, then.. It probably is not over 600 and small change.

there was a post recently with weights of complete

engines. i think that the 617 is about 480 i dont know if that is turbo or not. the turbos will weigh a little more, maybe 40 #.

so with out the head, manifolds turbo and injection pump, i would estimate 380 or 400.

Wow...you are tempting fate here!

I had a huge complete v-8 drop off a 3 legged stand once...it went over on its side when I attempted to roll the engine over.

Its just a good thing I wasn't under it...it broke a huge chunk off the block.

Get 4 wheels...they are MUCH safer.

A Duramax would be pretty fun

I was just wondering the weights for shipping purposes. Thank everyone for you help!
