future of diesel performance
i know some of you might not care about diesel hot rods, being mercedes is all about class, but maybe some of you would like it as a good read.
http://www.bankspower.com/im_HotRod_Sept05.cfm i was just wondering if a mercedes diesel would make one unique hotrod all stripped down with a ford cab or something and stumbled across the article. There's a video where Jay Leno talks to some guy if I remember correctly about performance diesels too, but I dont know where I saw it. EDIT: HAS ANYONE EVER SEEN THIS MERCEDES!? www.thinkbob.com/benzel/ It's like an el camino.

and a 6.9 and the 6.9 hydropneumatic gobbledeegook
You'd think he would have been done with it and put a SBC in there

I am the national tech guy for the DHRA and have been since it was founded by Eric Mcbride. I can tell you that there has been at least one diesel Mercedes raced in that series. I think this year we will see a 5500lb diesel truck run into the 9's on all motor. I also predict Bowling Green Ky in April will be when it happens. How about a Torreague V-10 in a Karman-ghia, maybe that could run 9's???

I just find it funny that Banks is spending $$$$$$$$ on the 5000rpm twin turbo duramax to get *only* 650hp/1000tq. I've seen 5.9L Cummins engines that get 700+hp that are everyday street drivable. It was not at all cheap, but nowhere near as much as banks is dumping into the duramax.

Could be a couple of reasons, weight (and CG), packaging, transmission options, and since they are racing it, they may have a reason for running higher RPMs. Higher than an inline Cummins would enjoy. Also consider in a racing application, it would need to sustain that power output level for a considerable length of time. Not just a dragstrip run. None the less, Banks blows IMHO. WAY too expensive and overrated stuff for the Big 3 diesel truck offerings.
