Can non-turbo injectors be shimmed to 135bar?

I have a set of balanced and cleaned non-turbo injectors and I don't really have a use for them. I wouldn't mind having a space set of turbo injectors though. Can the non-turbo ones be shimmed to 135 bar, or are the springs inside different as well?

Yes, just make sure the nozzles are the same.

Doing that exactly, had OM616 non turbo injectors shimmed to 135bar for my OM616 turbo, runs fine without any problems, nozzles for OM616 and OM617 turbo are same so thats why no issues.

Yes they can be

They can be shimmed as much as you like, within reason. I shimmed my vw diesel injectors to 165, the TD's are 155 as standard. The turbos are set higher to make better use of the air charge. If there is higher intake pressure then you can make better use of the injection system, so the fuel delivery is increased and to make sure the smoke doesnt increase also, they increase the breaking pressure also.

Two effects here actually, turbos have higher compression due to the air being forced so raising the pressure leads to better atomization and a slight retard of the timing.

Turbo and non turbo injectors.

I have injectors from an 82 300SD, turbo engine.
what would happen if I used them in my non turbo 81 300D?

I am willing to trade injectors with someone that could supply me with ones that would work for an 81 300D.

Thank You
RichC

No answer

Hello,

I have the same question to the last post and haven't found it in a search yet. I was hoping someone can answer. We have the PDX GTG comming up and my car isn't quite up to speed yet.

Does anyone know if Turbo injectors can be used in the Non-Turbo without being tuned back down from the 135 bar. I'm not sure if the shop will have time to check mine out before then.

Well I searced a bit longer and I think I found it. I'm going to take the concensus (though not argued a lot) is that it will be just fine.

Will injectors from a turbo 300D work in a 240D?

The tolerance level is around +/- 10bar so I guess you should be able to squeeze by with some jaggedness in the engine.
