Thought someone might like this who uses Castrol Tection 15W-40

Ever since I started using it, my engine uses little to no oil at all. Good product.

Has anyone else tried this oil? I know most folks here run Rotella or Mobil. Just wondering.

i got it 3 gallons for 15 dollars, still using it for umm 148 now, so 2,000 more miles:)

I've been using it in the SD for heck, 22K mi now... less leaks than before. FWIW. Also I use it in the SDL, this will be nice to save some cashola.

Use the physical addy and PO Box for two rebates. :D

It's probably really good oil. Can one of you look on the container and post the highest C rating that it has? I would hope and expect that it would be something like CH-4 Plus. If so then you can count on it to be a good, stout, healthy oil for your diesel.

I would like very much to see more SAE Specs in these threads.

It wasnt that long ago that castrol did'nt make anything for diesels. I wonder why they waited so long given the popularity of their other oils.

There could be any number of reasons that Castrol did not delve into the Universal grade market before now. You can bet that it is a marketing based decision.

To do well in this market you will have to capture a good piece of the truckers market. This market is dominated by three oils with everyone else getting a VERY small piece of the pie. Delo, Delvac and Rotella T own the truckers market.

A KEY consideration in marketing decisions is market share. What would be the risk taken and the chances of getting a large enough market share to make it profitable?

If this was NOT the truckers market, I expect Castrol would have attacked it long ago. Among passenger car drivers Castrol has GREAT name recognition and an equally great reputation. I fully expect, however, that this does not carry over to the truckers.

The truckers are not caring for their precious sports car. They are out to maximize their profit. The vast majority of them are using one of the oils listed above and having great success with it. Not only can they not see a reason to change, they are afraid to change. Why take a risk changing when they have proven to themself that their oil works.

Castrol is known among car enthusiasts. Any marketing person will tell you that breaking into a whole different market segment is a TOUGH and RISKY thing for any company to do.

I'm sure that Castrol is making a good product for breaking into the market, but a good product alone is not good enough when it comes to marketing.

It will be very interesting to see what success they have with it.

Castrol RX Super 15W-40 has been out for at least 10 years. So castrol has been in the diesel game for awhile.
They just recently released the Hypuron (semi synth) and
Tection labels. Also note that Castrol TXT 505.01 is the reccomended oil for VW pumpe duses.
