Yes, and the proper style for the W123 models as well. I had originally planned to "euro" the entire car out, including putting the smaller bumpers on. I absolutlely loved the look of that old Eurospec 240D that I used to own.

That's what I've done with mine. I prefer that Euro light. I've also put on the smaller bumpers, similar to the large ones with the rubber sides, and installed tail light lenses with the amber wrap-around. I'm still working on getting all wood pieces for the dash, including the manual heater.

I took Brian's car over to the farm 'on the way home' and, after dropping off the tow dolly at the rental hut, pulled into Area 51's driveway at 17:45 yesterday.

558 miles in 14 hours and 15 minutes (includes time to yank drivshaft out of the parts car and other stops for fuel and 'dewatering'), ~200 of which were with a vehicle in tow. One helluva long day.

Brian, FWIW, I went over to Bridgeport and then south on 920 to Weatherford, working my way south on Texas 171 to Hillsboro. Ran IH35 from Hillsboro to Waco then US77 to just south of Cameron and then FM roads to the farm from there.

I'll post some action pics soon.

Now isn't that funny Randy. At 70mph your tach reads the same as mine.....
I just love pics of Marlene towing another project car home. I like those headlights too. I think they are my favorite Euro's. Is Marlene going to get a facelift?

Hi Jimmy!
Those round Euros are going onto SWMBOs 300D and (someday) Marlene will get the square Euros (and a 5-speed) off the 240 I have.

FWIW, that's probably the last car I'll ever retrieve with a tow dolly. Up till now, those trips have been pretty easy. Sure, you suck the fuel, people look at you like you have a thumb growing out of your forehead when they pass and it takes a long time to get to speed but this particular recovery was a rough one. Don't know if that old 300D was loose-goosey in the rear or, if it was the crap dolly I rented but that rig was all over the road. No napping behind the wheel on that trip, no sirree!!

Next time it's Dad's PowerSmoke and a (soon-to-be-acquired) hay trailer.

Have you given up on the 240 5sp, or is it just going to lose it's tranny?
BTW, as much as I love seeing Marlene in action, the powersmoke is probably the prudent move! Does SWMBO like the Euros, and what color combo is her 300D? I can't remember ever seeing it, but memory isn't exactly my strong point.....

R. Leo, I love that pic taken when you're driving... it seems to show the paranoia of what was explained to be a harrowing trip. Especially since, to the uninitiated, it looks like you're getting rear-ended by a 123 at the moment the pic was taken!

Oh, and it looks like you, like me, need a tach amp...

Hehe!! Yep, at speed on the Interstate, it's easy to momentarily forget that you're towing a car. So, a glance in the mirror can be pretty startling, seeing that grill so close.

I'm still working on Sybill (rolled her in the shop on December 5, 2005 to start the frontend rebuild and a/c refit), the 300SDLs airconditioner. The latest thing is that it's taken a couple of days to remove the expansion valve....correction, it's taken a couple of days to remove everything that is in the way of removing the expansion valve. Once she's back on the road (another week?), Lilly, SWMBOs 300D goes in the shop for rear shocks (new Bilsteins are replacing the 2-year old KYBs that are scaring the pants off of me) and vacuum leak repair. SWMBO is cool with getting the round Euro lights...we both agree that the sealed beams suck badly and anything would be an improvement.

After that's all done, the Euro comes home and I'll swap the 5 for the 4 and dig into the coolant problem and some rust on that car (Gawd I hope that coolant issue is simple...actually, I'd like to drop in a plain-Jane 616 and be done with it but, in a moment of weakness, I sold my running 616 to Greg). With the 5 out and the Euro done, I'll finally bring Marlene into the shop and start on the 4 -> 5 conversion. Should be simple as measuring the driveshaft, getting it shortened and fabbing a rear support to accomodate the longer tranny.

Plus, I need to pull the radiator out of my tractor and get it re-cored before summer...and that's just the vehicle projects; I'm building two houses also.
