If the swaybar snaps on the rear (never heard of it), just replace the bar. It can be removed with relative ease.

No.
Just replace the rear sway bar links, they are simple and cheap.

Hi,

No, I am refering to the stainless steel polt that I used in the repair. My repair is almost identical to what Brian did but I used a stainless steel bolt and stainless steel sleeve.

About those repair pieces......

one thing i dont see mentioned is if they fit the thicker "T" cars.........so if you drive a wagon, check that......

Roy, I think the co shown in the link in post #49 is out of business. I just posted the link because it shows a good pictorial of the QP welded to the bar. Baum Tools does not have such a pictorial.

Won't work on the TD without modification

I checked before purchase, but they were wrong. This part WILL NOT fit a 300TD swaybar without modification. Had to machine about .040" to get it to slip on. "Works on all W123s" as long as you've got a lathe handy....

Well, I bet the fix I did will work on the TD. - I'd carefully check the bushing/joint thickness. Mine is doing fine, I pry on it a little just to check whenever I have wheel off (the original side too)

I don't recall if I gave an update on this but I did order the Baum Tools sway bar kit and replaced both on my 85D. I had a specialty welding shop do the work. I did the prep work on one side where it already broke. Used a cutting disk and followed the Baum instructions.

All the shop needed to do was insert and weld. They did all the work on the end that was not broken. They showed me the bar tip of that end and it was looking bad. It cost me $100 for the work.

Pictures of a repair

1983 240D right front sway bar broken.

I was also forced to replace the upper control arm, due to damage from the broken sway bar stub.
