So you guys are tellin me I need to badge my 300SD as a 180D?

I don't think I can contend with the cool-ness factor of a 180

Exactly. Pretty dumb idea for a 300D, and for a 240 it's beyond stupid.

Yes, body kits on a diesel make no sense. You're just adding dead weight to the car, which results in the motor, transmission, and drive train probably working more than it would if it was the way it came from the factory, decreasing the life of your car's mechanical abilities just for the sake of it looking pretty, plus, MB enthusiasts like me would be laughing every time you pass by.

But, the thing is when you have a car, it allows you to express yourself how you want, it lets people know how you are. Bumper stickers, body kits, rims, lights, etc..., so since it's a reflection of oneself I can't really tell people what to do with their MBs (though I really wish some of them would listen to me).

Personally, I like to keep it close to stock without any extravagant modifications that are easily reversible and tasteful (ex: 86-91 W126 15" rims, black grille insert, leather wheelskin steering wheel cover, wood shifter knob, sheepskin seat covers in the front), unlike body kits which may require drilling of sheet metal to be applied, leading to rust.

The oldest W123s are turning 30 years old now, we need to keep them looking nice, and if we must modify, keep it reversible and tasteful.

(I don't think they're listening to me.)

Uh...no it's not. Your ricer that has effects you can buy at Autozone is a freaking ducktail and ground effects. When AMG designed and engineered body parts they put in hundreds of hours and countless test track runs to perfect the individual pieces. They were not designed with "fast" looks in mind- they were designed to make the car faster. But do and think what you want.

ok.

1) i dont own or have any amg parts on my cars. i only have one mb, a 240d.

2) the leon does have a fin, but it came from the factory so i guess thats ok.

3) quit pretending this is religion, theyre automobile bits, folks.

4) i have no japanese car or aspirations to.

i am thinking of tracking down a judson supercharger for my 1200, is that the same as putting an amg body kit on a non amg car? it does come with a fender badge...

Some of the nice body kits look pretty good on MB's. For example I found a Lorinsor for the W126 that looks good, and AMG made a few nice body kits for the W126 as well.

The good body kits are light, fit well and probably add to the air flow on the car. They also cost several thousand dollars.

If you think body kits are junk find a pic of a lowered 560SEC AMG, in black they simpley look sick. The body kit probably helped air flow at 170mph. AMG made a DTM 560SEC so they know how to make them go real fast.

why the turnaround, hattie?

werent you on the "body kits are for posers" side?

i agree with you, that amg body kit for the w123 looks nice. i dont care if the car is a 240, it'd still look exactly the same as a 280e amg, wouldnt it?

it'd have the internals i like and a sporty exterior to boot, how is that bad?! im sure i wont find them, but youall can bet if i see an amg car at my u pull it, ill have the slowest amg ever.

a white car with black chrome and black(maybe dark grey) skirts and a black ducktail, i'd like that a lot. an sec would be cool too. same oldschool look. not the new, everything monotone thing. i guess that'd be a 500sec, first generation?

No I like body kits, as long as they are of very high quality and in very good taste. I just don't think a car with an AMG body kit is deserving of the badge. Big spoilers are stupid unless they are on a Lambo or Zonda.

AMG made some awsome W126's back in the 80's and early 90's. Many ended up in Japan of all places. In the past few years quite a few have come on the market these were $150k+ cars in their day!

I look forward to adding a pair 560SEL and 560SEC AMG's to my collection some day. Throw in a 1000SEL for the ultimate rare W126 collection.

One member over at MB world has a blacked out 560SEC. Lowered with a set of I think Carlson wheels it looks stunning.
