Angry need a new engine

my recently purchased 300SDL is in need of a new engine. my mechanic said 3 cylinders have no compression due to something breaking loose and getting in there. anyone have any recommendations on where to get a new one?

A new one - MB and actually comperable in price to a reman - now don't confuse this with what the dealership will charge to remove and stab.

Bernie - this sound like a start to a good thread - what is the rest of the story on this newly aquired 126>

the rest of the car is in great shape, i bought it knowing it had engine problems but i thought it was a cracked head. it only had 102k miles on it. my mechanic said he has a guy w a car there thats in bad shape but the engine runs good and has been serviced by him recently. he said the used one w about 200k miles on it would run me about $1,500...not bad.

I may be in the same boat, removing the head off one now to see what the damage was from my wife running it hot. As stated in my thread, I had prices ranging from $1800 for used to $5000 and $6000 for rebuilt plus core of $1000 on rebuilds. This of course is if you do all labor. My local mechanic wanted $6000 for the engine plus labor. I paid $4000 for the car, but I am the second owner and it is (was) in fabulous shape! I just need to get it up and going again!

My SDL is in super shape and have often thought about this situation. In my current position I would buy a MB crate and stab it myself. The warranty situation is quite a bit stronger with MB. Sounds like you are on the right track if you found a good used one, these cars are awesome!

Thumbs up

$1500 for a shortblock that's used? Wow, they're a lot more than I thought. Maybe I will hold onto one of them then after all.

I had several quotes for used long blocks, ready to drop and roll so to speak. Those ranged from $1800 to $2600 with a guarantee of at least 6 months to a year.
