tranny goes away, ttranny comes back goes comes back

interesting trip home tonite. i went to my destination no prob. on the way back the trans seemed to lose vaccuum and not be engaged. i would pull over and shut down and restart and it would be fine for a distance of 100 yards to 10 miles. made for an interesting 75 mile drive. there was also no heat working. when it did the trip was very short both times so i just shut off the heater and that got me some distance.

recently i removed the vac lines to the egr and plugged the egr lines with permatex. the vac lines are plugged straight thru.

any ideas group?

oh yeah,

i also took off the harness that had the egr vac lines in it. i looked at the little black box on the valve cover and discovered 2 plastic switches. aren't these for the trans gear selectors? if they are I think i need to swap them as they are quite thin. i have seen replacements at dieselgiant which leads me to believe that i need to put back the black and clear vac lines.

i thought i saw on the egr blocking plate thread that they were okay to disconnect.

someone correct me if i am wrong.

........on the 240, the supply vacuum for the VCV is routed via at least one of those plastic switches. So, what do you have for vacuum to the VCV now? I'm not exactly sure of the function of the switch for use with the transmission, however, if you eliminated the plug and all the lines to it, I suspect that you have no vacuum to the VCV and, therefore, no vacuum to the modulator.

No vacuum makes it slip? I'd have thought the opposite would happen.

had it into the indy.......

the pan was clean but the fluid had gritty stuff in it. speculation is the pump would get clogged or get no fluid and shut down the tranny. shutting off the car dropped the vac and it all returned to the filter only to rise again. clean filter and fluid and almost no problems. i say almost because 2-3 is flairing but the k1 is on the way.

may i just say to anyone buying a car with NO records..........just change everything. period. filters, fluids what have you. don't be like me and pay for this to be done at an inconvient time.

there are a lot of lessons to be learned. this is one of them.
