little dab a do ya...

I continue to be amazed by these W123's, they seem so simple. This car is putting the fun back in tinkering around the shop. I was putzing around with it, trying find an annoying rattle/tink sound drivers side and noticed the throttle linkage ball connectors looked nasty. The throttle had a sticky spot feel...so I start popping links off, degunking, shined up, greased up, replaced, and sprayed the pivot points with Rem Oil....forgot all about the rattle/tink noise untill I heard it going up the driveway. Stop, go back, pop the hood, start looking around and found a big ole orange handled screwdriver down the hole in the coil spring. Fished it out and took my ride. The rattle is gone, but the car feels great! MUCH BETTER feel and reaction to the throttle...grease is so much better than grit!

Man, I love a 10 minute, ten cent fix!

Now, what else can I do cheap or free or fun??

It wasn’t free – kind of cheap – but I did have fun replacing the glow plugs. They were in there 2 and a half years, the car started fine but it was time to replace. Yes, these cars are a joy to work on.

If you consider a big orange handled screwdriver costs more than 10 cents then you can say you made money or at least broke even on that. Unless the screwdriver was yours to begin with.
