Maybe Benz changed the pins in 1984? Mine seem to be about 170 degrees out from each other so it can't be installed wrong. Paul.

I have to admit that I either forgot or couldn't find my marks when I went to reattach my balancer when I rebuilt. So, after the head and chain were installed, I just rotated the engine until #1 intake was lifting and oriented the balancer so the numbers were facing up.
