Pump injector element leak
I have a element that is leaking at the base. Is this a easy fix? What is involved? Looks like a gasket at the base where it is leaking. Is it a matter of taking off , new gasket? Or is it under pressure and I am fixing to open up a can of worms? THANKS for ALL info.

My injector pump leaks out of the base of the # 1 fuel element (and maybe the second). it has been causing me all kinds of hell.. wierd starts and air in the system causing shaking. I spoke to my very faithful mechanic when I was down in Miami (i used to live down there and was visiting) a week or two ago. He hooked me up with a few gaskets and instructed me on what needs to be removed to install it. First you have to remove the appropriate injector pipe/s and then remove the fuel element. Be careful with all the associated other parts engaged with the element ( like the spring and the collar that holds the gasket in place). Clean off the top of the injector, but be careful not to get any dirt or grime in the socket. Install the new gasket on top of the afformentioned collar and then install in the reverse manner of disassembly. Looked relativeley easy... Its actually something im going to do tomorrow. I will let you know how it goes. I was told that the gaskets are not easy to find, but try talking to fastlane.

I also remember my old mechanic telling me to remove the gas cap to remove any pressure on the fuel system.

I just got a pair of delivery valve seals from the dealer for $5.00 or so.

Well, I replaced the rubber o-ring on the fuel element and the copper washers on the inside of the #1 and #2 elements and my car runs much better upon start up. No more leaks :) . I will say that two of the 14 mm nuts attaching the element to the injector pump I over torqued in my efforts to make it tight. Don't do this as I stripped the nuts and had to go out find new ones. Education through experience I guess. Anyone know the specific torques on the different pieces associated with this?
