wow, I knew she was a rustbucket when I bought her (but I just HAD to have a manual tranny 300d) but damn it was worse than I thought.

I had read about using a heat gun to soften the body putty, but I don't have one, and I just figgered I'd use a linoleum knife to slice thru it..... WRONG.

After cutting 20 or 30 slices thru the putty and having no success removing the QP, I finally resorted to using my jeeps best friend, the hi-lift jack.

heres the qp I pulled from the junkyard from an 83 300d... there was NO body putty, it came off sooo easily... and fit my 80 perfectly...

It appears the new qp is of a different color than the rest of the car..... :D ;)

Just messing, I may be doing this soon with my rear passenger door, I'll probably have to get it painted....unless I just repair mine.

Body still looks somewhat fixable, at least in that spot, with a few new panels. A manuel 300 would be pretty fun to drive!

Thanks for the head-up, I'm a bit colorblind..:)

I just stuck it on there to check fitment.

RG-yes it is fixable, I got this stuff called Rust bullet which appears to be better than POR15, From there I'll decide if I want to go fiberglass or weld something in...

I do love my manual tranny, but the other day I got beat off the line by a mid 80s volvo station wagon:mad: :confused:

How horribly embarrassing.

They stopped using the body putty arround '82 IIRC, the MB chassis manual says to use a heat gun, but damn I had to use a torch to get one off of a '79.

The putty is thick and hard and fills compound curves. A knife won't touch it...

My 83 didn't have it.

I would weld in that area. I believe you need some structural strength in that area.
