Exactly what i was gonna say. My wifes 98 TDI Jetta had a blown glow plug fuse this year. I bought glow plugs and then took em all back. $24 a piece . Ouch. No glow plugs were working but it still started in 5* F in about 4 good cranks. Anway, the fuse should be up above the FUSE Box in the cabin. Drop the fuse box and you can reach up and pull it out. Its a big red 50A fuse called a Maxi. Looks like all others but 3 times as big. Hopefully it is just a $2 fix and not a relay.

I relay doubt there is much wrong with the engine unless it was driven for thousands and thousands of miles 2 quarts low on oil. My wifes has 110K on it. It loses about 1 quart in 3000 miles. It leaks it mostly though. I hope to find that leak come spring.

well, also

there was surely some oil in the filter too.

i have found that what you drain out always seems to be less than you expect.
