Sounds like blown turbo seals. Don't run it in that condition a run away is possible.

My daily driver 300SD found it's way to me because of exactly that. I bought it on eBay with a broken timing chain and broken cam. The root cause was the vacuum pump.

kept old engine! still on my truck!

hope to find enough nieghbors to help get it down out of my pickup bed!
if anyone in AZ or who wants to come get it is interested in the block and head your welcome to it!
would make a nice overhaul unit!
just has the turbo peices in #2 cylinder as far as I know!
I need to pull off the pump and injectors to hord for my personall use!
after using the MB repair manual link (HOW WONDERFULL IS THAT?) I guess I do have a CAT!
I should pull it off and poke out the insides!
If it's anything like a conventional CAT then the oil may never come out!
