Does anyone know if there is a similar magic bullet for the 3-4 shift?

I can tell you that when I messed with my vacuum control valve (made it too tight, decreased range of pressure), along with a clunky downshift into first, I also got the 3-4 shift to flare out terribly.

I would start with looking at the vacuum levels.

The K1 kit had little to no effect on the 3-4 shift when I installed it. But there are other similar places in the transmission that a 3-4 spring (K2?) could live. Whoever found the K1 spring may have also researched the the 3-4 shift also - anybody know?

Just checked mbz.org and their article about the K-1 is not there. Do a search for it to find the location.
I recalled having read that article before. As apparently happened when you looked, I found a broken link on the mbz.org site which should have led to the article. A bit of sleuthing did locate this page successfully.

However, all of the photo embeds are broken, and I can't find the associated files anywhere on images.mbz.org. My guess is that the photos would be a big help in properly completing the job.

Would anyone have had the foresight to archive that entire page with images included?

I will be changing out my valve body this week and could take new photos of that job while I'm in there.

If you're able to, Adam, that would be a tremendous service.

(I often these days will document with digital snapshots an entire disassembly step by step as I'm doing it. It's a huge help when I am called away in the middle of the job and then come back later on to finish, having forgotten details in the meantime -- sheesh, what's the proper orientation of that gizmo again? Aha! Check the photo log. One more thing to love about digital cameras.)

There turn out to be some K1 spring kit procedure photos in an earlier ShopForum thread. I don't think these are the same photos as are referenced by the mbz.org page on the K1 modification, though.

Thanks for the article and pics. I just ordered the K1 kit from FastLane after my W124 started doing this over the weekend. Looking forward to possibly correcting this inexpensively.

I have a '78 300D with NO vacuum controlled shift points - just linkage. Will this help my 2-3 shift problem?
