W210 Boost Gauge Install PICS

After reading Jay Gibbs post on his accessory panel install, I have been meaning to post some pictures of my own gauge install in my 99 E300. I was going to go the route of using the cubby hole, problem is I have comand so the only logical place for me to install a boost gauge would be on the A pillar. I was worried about it looking kinda ricey, so I took great care in trying to install it tastefully, only regret I have is using a Autometer gauge with a carbon fiber background isntead of a VDO one. I have had bad luck with VDO in my W123 so I decided to go the Autometer route (and try to find something close in terms of "the factory look"). Here are some pics.

That is nice. Have a similar setup in Dodge diesel, but have never seen the A pillar used with MBZ's. Did you custom construct the A pillar cover/gauge pod, or where did it come from?

I bought an extra w210 A pllar, and took it to an upholstery shop where they were able to mount the gauge and upholster it, in material that looked very close to factory headliner material. I am very pleased with the way it turned out, I have a couple other mods in the works, like tapping into the OBDII to display Trans Temp, Oil Pressure, Oil Temp etc on the comand screen. Also have power folding mirrors and the updated Multi Function display, and steering wheel being installed on Monday.

Out of curiosity has anyone had any trouble with installing a SVO system in these cars? I had a Greasecar system, and it leaked horribly, I ended up taking it out, but now with these Frybrid Systems out, I am tempted again.

Very nice. I wouldn't mind doing that on mine. Do you have pictures of how you connected everything under the hood?

Wow that looks sweet, I want to do that with a Tach/Pyro/Oil Temp gauge along my A-pillar.....I can't decide if I should just...destroy mine... or find an extra one to use. Probably an extra one would be better.

Anyone have a Palomino A-pillar cover for a W126? I'll Pay $$ for it.

here are some pics of the install, there is a rubber slug that seperates the firewall from the cabin I ran the Vacuum Line through this rubber slug and routed it to the boost control line. I used a rubber boot to tap into the pressure from the boost control module. I was having trouble at first getting the CEL engine light because the pressure line from the Boost Gauge kept disconnecting from the rubber boot, I have since solved that problem by using plastic tie wraps to hold the pressure line inside the rubber boot.

Let me see if I understand this correctly. The boost gauge has one vaccum line attached to it. That vaccum line is tapped into the boost control module. That's it? Where did you get the boot?

Go Elsbett single tank

straight from germany. I just installed it over the weekend. It consists of different injector nozzles, longer glow plugs, hydraulic heat exchanger and fuel filter heater. It works flawlessly. I started up today at 31 F on cold canola oil without a hiccup and it ran smooth as silk with plenty of power.

I feel two tank systems are a waste of time unless all you do is longer trips or the climate is extremely cold. They do say mix a little diesel with the canola oil when it gets really cold but I remember reading like -15. So still why go two tank and worry about flushing the system and flipping switches. Just mix a little diesel if it gets too cold and a one tank elsbett is all you need. It is going to be colder tonight. I just may get to see how it does in the 20's.

The boost gauge has a vacuum line (that you attach to the back of the gauge via a brass connector), I put a three way plastic T in the rubber line that feeds the boost control module boost pressure. I got the rubber boot from Pep Boys, it came with like 5 assorted rubber boots. The one I used was a reducer, that reduces the plasic T size to a smaller size that allows the plastic vacuum line to fit snugly. I then put a zip tie over the boot to make sure that the vacuum line would not come loose from the boot.

To run the Elsbett one tank system, is it true that you cannot use filtered WVO and must use unused SVO?

I have a question about the Elsbett system. Won't cold starting on SVO coke your engine/injectors?

I run a greasecar system in my car. I haven't had much trouble with it. It took a little time to learn the system, but now I'm running fine.

Ed I would be very interested if you could post some pictures, I had a greasecar system in my w210 and ran into major problems.
