I have an 85 300SD. I recently put one of those after market air intakes like a KN on. With springtime here and the windows and sunroof open, I hear a whine from the turbo but I don't know if I had the whine before since I just got the car and didn't drive with the windows open until last week.

Two Questions: Are those aftermarket intakes bad for the engine/turbo? Is a little whine from the turbo normal?

Thanks,

Dave

In short.

Yes, they are bad.

A little noise is acceptable but a lot most likely means you have a leak.

Thanks, Guys. I have been using the search button all day but didn't find the discussion you indicated. I just tried to go there and I got a message that there were no matches for the search.

I will remove the intake kit and put the factory one back on.

I did find a place to buy rebuild parts on this forum so I guess I will call and order those.

This website is fantastic.

One thing, does anyone know how to change your username? I screwed up when I joined.
