Sell, junk or repair?
If have a tricky situation with a 300d 1984. The car has sat for almost a year since I ride my cycle almost all the time. The car has problems and I could use any feedback as to weather I should sell(if I am lucky) junk or repair. I purchsed this car in a hurry and I did not notice that the PO was a handy man in that switches and wire junctions are now spiced wires. Here is a brief rundown on what has to be tended to to get the car up to speed. Exhaust is shot, battery willl not hold a charge, dash blower motor shot, vacum pump in need of rebuild steeping pump in need of rebuild, rust rot on panel at rear that supports roof, clutch for cooling fan engaged all the time. If i did repair it would have to be a local car and since I live on a island and have the bike for longer trips it could solve thaqt problem. Any feedback is appreciated. I also have to say that the car is far from perfect in general condition. I hve just listed the item that need attention. Thanks in advance.
Johm ps the engine, as with most MB diesels runs great when runing. |

Sounds like a parts car. How is the interior, paint and suspension?
They usually do well on ebay...

The mechanical stuff can be fixed, either with new or used parts from a junk yard. The body and interior are the real issues. Sounds like it will never be a show car, but might still be a good driver. Do all the spliced connection components work? What shape is the engine and transmission in? Some parts I would get used, such as the blower motor and exhaust system, even a power steering pump (though seal kits are available for a reasonable price). Wouldn't worry about the fan clutch stuck as long as it is not loose and could break apart, as in fan through the radiator. Best to do a list of problems and costs to see what it will take to get back on the road, and then decide if it is worth it to you for a daily driver.
