Were the Cruise Amps Different?

I was just snooping through fastlane, and I saw that under a 1982 300DT-wagon AND under 300D they sell a remanufactured Cruise Amp (14 pin) for $246, but under the 1982 300SD (what I have) they sell "Cruise Amp" for $456, but it doesn't say remanufactured. Are these interchangeable? I'd imagine they would be.....so why the price/parts difference? Would I be able to use the $256 remanufactured one in my car? I can't see why they'd be different....

At first glance I would guess that there could be a difference. The 123 car has a mechanical speedo with a speed signal generator on the back. The 126 car has an electronic speedo with an electronically prepared signal. I would guess the signals could be different.

They will rebuild them for under $200, last I checked.

GDL rebuilds

The chances are that a rebuild by GDL would be as good as or better than a new unit. They rebuilt mine (on the 85 300TD) and it is working fine after two years and around 20K miles.

Or you can buy an aftermarket unit for less, wire it up to the stock control stick, and never have to worry about the flaky MB cruise amp ever again .

On the W123 chassis (240D, 300D, 300CD), I know the early versions up to 1981 were different than 1982 and later. The early cruises used a vacuum actuator, and the later an electric actuator, thus different amplifier modules.

I have had GDL repair two amplifiers with great success, at $200 each. Great place to deal with and I highly recommend them. The rebuilds even carry, I think, a 2 year warranty now.

Thanks for the tip about GDL, I think I may send mine in if the used one I am buying doesn't work, when I activate cruise it simply....drops the pedal to the floor and attempts to set a speed record.
