Thumbs up 603 - vac pump torque specs?

I have my new pump about 98% installed, I need the torque values for those small bolts. I figure about 6-8ft-lbs maybe but don't want to break one off. I'm ---><--- that close to taking the L out tonight!

The old pump was sounding very gross and the front panel was LOOSE!

Thanks for the specs!

Someone else will probably chime in with the correct torque value, but this is exactly why I don't use a torque wrench. I only use general torque values as a guide and I'd take my feel over some printed number and a possibly miscalibrated torque wrench any day. Just be sure to tighten the bolts slowly and diagonally. Buy yeah that torque value sounds about right.

Just tighten them without overdoing it. I did the same, and it worked fine.

I'd guess that after finger tightening the bolts, it was 1/4 to 1/2 turn with the wrench. Remember that as long as they're snug, it won't leak. If all the bolts are snug + 1/16th turn, you can't theoretically leak any oil!

Vac pump was noisy? Glad you caught it before the thing did your engine in.
I would make them "just snug" as if there were split ring lockwashers they would compress just flat and thats good. I sometimes use a wavy washer on a bolt like this. No Locktite though.

They don't have to be as tight as the same sized bolts used in a door check (which tend to get loose if you don't put loctite on them)!

Thumbs up

I put them at 5 ft-lbs and the SDL is back driving! That other pump sounded very bad, so the car has been parked since November? Been a while.

Euro lights are nice at night, way better than the lights the SD had (the SD has the second gen lamps now).
